The Biology of Courage
The courageous person is not the person who knows no fear, but the person who overcomes the fear they feel. What goes on in your brain and your heart when you overcome your fears?
Join Dr. Mark Reimers this Sunday, for a talk about the biology of fear and three kinds of courage: facing physical danger; facing social censure; and facing up to our own mistakes.
Meet Dr. Mark Reimers
Mark is a quantitative neuroscientist, investigating how the kaleidoscopic, ever-shifting activity in your brain gives rise to thoughts and feelings. Dr. Reimers has worked at the US National Institutes of Health, the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, the Virginia Institute for Psychiatric and Behavioral Genetics and at Michigan State University.
He was the leader of the Richmond Humanists in Virginia for five years, and the leader of the UU Forum in Lansing, MI for six years; he speaks frequently at humanist and science outreach events in Michigan and online.
He aims to weave together brain science with humanist aspirations, and we’re delighted to have him back with us this weekend.
