A movie that moved us
This Sunday at West Hill United, we're mixing it up again with a talk about the Movies That Move Us — exploring the stories on screen that challenge us, inspire us, and help us reflect on the values that shape our lives and community.
West Hill’s Anne Jackson will shine a spotlight on "The Shawshank Redemption", a film that continues to resonate because of its powerful themes of hope, resilience, friendship, and the enduring human spirit. Together, we’ll consider how these values connect with, compassion, justice, and the courage to keep believing in a better future — even in difficult times.
Whether you know the film well or are curious about the conversation, we hope you'll join us for an engaging and meaningful time together as we explore the movies that move us — and the deeper truths they reveal about who we are and who can choose to become.

The following words were adapted to a poem from song lyrics by Scott Kearns, inspired by the original words of Katherine Hankey.
I love to hear the stories
of those who rose above
discouragement and sadness
to live their lives in love.
Their loving care was gifted
to self and others in need.
The wisdom gained through their trials
became a gift for them to share.
I love to listen to the stories
of those who chose to dare
to challenge some injustice,
to risk the slurs of others,
to move beyond the fear.
They must have heard
a higher calling
to serve a clear purpose
and provide the needed care.
May we create new stories
where ever there is need
to gladden the hurting heart
and feed the hungry sole.
But if we lose the vision
and attend to lesser things,
may the timeless stores
refresh our soles again.
We celebrate the stories
that shine with common glory.
the sacred theme of these stories
is the great power of love.
